Simon Tuxworth | Managing Director
• MC - Multi Combination Truck License
• Qualified Diesel Fitter
• Certificate IV in Frontline Management
• Forklift License Holder
Simon Tuxworth is a Managing Director at Tuxworth and Woods and oversees the drivers and logistics department. Simon is a 2nd generation Tuxworth, inspired by his parents Norm and Val Tuxworth.
When growing up, Simon took a keen interest from his dad in learning about the freighting business and the ability to expertly pack a truck efficiently, maximising on space and time efficiency to deliver goods to northern communities.
Tuxworth and Woods is engrained in Simon today, it’s not just his work, but it’s also his home, his house and his family.
Working in the freighting industry has its challenges, but at the end of the day the job is a very rewarding one at that. The love of the job, family and of course, the trucks!
Growing up in the outback, originally hailed from Weipa, Simon started very young and become a fully qualified diesel fitter at the age of 18, having already worked with his Dad, from as young at 8 years old, watching the ways of freighting because that’s what Simon wanted to do.
The trucking industry has certainly come a long way today, compared to when the industry started, there is a lot more government compliance, greater costs in fuel, higher registrations especially for the trucking industry.
At Tuxworth and Woods, together we continue to make it happen, our team of people, from the drivers that get the recognition of being Santa Claus when delivering goods to remote communities to yard crew that load the trucks, drive the forklifts, pack, label and mark off the packages.
We have a large crew of 37 team members, and each team members family is our family.
The team we have today has been with us a very long time, we love to see the growth in all our team members and the passionate views we all share for the remote communities and trucking in general.
Val Tuxworth | Managing Director
Val Tuxworth, along with her husband Norm, established Tuxworth and Woods Carriers in 1972. Val oversees the efficient running of the office, accounts and human resources of the administration team. Val absolutely loves the trucking business, even with its challenges. Freighting is a challenging industry in general, going off road, has challenges. Ensuring we keep up with compliances, adapting to new consumer markets and the advances in ecommerce is how we continue to grow and adapt to the industry as it continues to evolve.
There is so much done online now, shopping online has really changed the game, anyone, anywhere can sit and just order something online. We shop online more often than thinking about driving to the shops to buy something when you can just have Tuxworth deliver it!
Norm Tuxworth | Managing Director
Norm Tuxworth was the Founder of Tuxworth and Woods Carriers, along with his wife Val. Norm has two children, with his son, Simon Tuxworth taking over his role as he grew into the position of Managing Director which allowed Norm to enjoy spending more time with his family and grandchildren.
Norm is still very much part of the business, where Simon and Val still lean on him regularly for advice and an excellent story or two to share about his history in the industry. Norm still loves the trucks, loves speaking to the team, the drivers and very much enjoyed his time being part of the northern local communities and comradery of the good ole days.
Ann Bergman | Administration/ Accounts Receivable
• Diploma in Business
• Forklift License Holder
• First Aid Officer
Ann has been part of the Tuxworth and Woods family business since 2011 and oversees our accounts receivable and administration functions. The core roles of Ann’s position include data entry, entering invoices, quoting on transport and customer service. As a busy freighting business with a long history in servicing the community, we do serve a lot of customers daily.
Ann brings 45 years of experience in the industry, efficient with most computer programs and custom-built CRM’s, maintaining processes and implementing new ones to drive efficiency, provide ongoing training to new recruits and the wider team.
Julia Norton | Administrator
Julia is another long-term team member, joining the Tuxworth and Woods family business in 2012 and assisting the administration department with data entry and customer service. Julia recognises the increase in volume of work due to online shopping and how that’s taken off.
In some ways, it’s good that ecommerce has increased the volume of our work, but at the same time, technology can be challenging for us, especially when our drivers must travel to such remote communities, so we still need to rely on the old-fashioned notepads, written diaries and pens. We love the transport industry, that’s why we’ve been here so long, we love the Tuxworth local family business ethos!
Leeann Isgar | Office & Warehousing
Leeann started with Tuxworth and Woods in the year 2020, at the height of COVID-19 to assist our office and Warehousing team in the volume of work that heavily increased due to the world closing, but as Tuxworth and Woods remained an essential service during the pandemic, our volume of work increased heavily.
The many restrictions put on us during this time was very challenging indeed and Leeann assisted our office and Warehousing departments getting through the additional volume of paperwork and customer service. Leeann really loves everything about the freight industry and in her personal time outside of work has a huge love for dogs and birds.
Alan Armodie | Warehouse Logistics
• Forklift License Holder
• First Aid Officer
• Fire Warden
Alan started with Tuxworth and Woods in late 2018 and oversees the warehousing department logistics. Receiving goods between Monday to Friday keeps our area very busy ensuring the integrity of package labelling and sorting. The paperwork we must manage to ensure it matches with the loaded manifests is a huge feat for our team. There is nothing better than being able to tick off every item on the list, that’s also on the truck!
We certainly get challenged in some situations with delay of deliveries at our Warehouse, that may not make a truck in time for the run up north, which can impact communities, so we do our best that suppliers are well informed of our delivery and cut off times by our way of increased information to eliminate any unforeseen circumstances.
Trish Iverach | Warehouse Customer Service
• Forklift License Holder
Trish is our newest recruit to the Tuxworth and Woods team, assisting in our Warehouse department with customer service. Tuxworth and Woods receive hundreds of deliveries per day and thousands per week, having the ability to expertly label and pack items prior to transport with the integrity of our packing lists and onboard manifests is an art.
We choose to work in the freight industry because we love it, we love the people in our team and the trucks. Freighting in general is challenging, especially when dealing with tight deadlines, wet weather conditions and sometimes passionate customers who like to push the boundaries, thankfully we have great team morale in the warehouse, we’ve seen it all and are capable of working through every challenge as it arises, finding solutions is what we do on the daily.
